Australia’s Courtney Barnett Hits Number 1 At CMJ

Planetary Group is proud to be bringing Barnett’s second release Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit to the format, where it has been welcomed with open arms, landing at #1 on CMJ’s Radio 200 chart this week. Rolling Stone lauds her as, “one of the sharpest, most original songwriters around – at any level, in any genre.”

“… wherever Barnett ends up, we’re going to want to go with her. She’s a talent we’ll be following for decades.”

Tom Brosseau Pitchfork Premiere

Perfect Abandon “There’s a pleasant, nearly conversational quality to Brosseau’s wry speak-sing, evoking Cass McCombs and Jeffrey Lewis or even David Bromberg. The effect is quietly jarring, like a stranger relating unspeakable trauma out loud to no one in particular in the middle of a coffee shop.”

Courtney Barnett Premieres New Track, Best New Music At Pitchfork

We are beyond stoked about the release of Courtney Barnett’s new track “Pedestrian At Best”. The glowing reviews are already coming in…

“For all its self-lacerations, the darkly funny, deeply revealing “Pedestrian” is a real hoot, one of the finest rock songs of the young year.” – Pitchfork, Best New Music

“Welcome to 2015 and the year many will fall in love with the best lyricist in rock music today, Courtney Barnett.” – Bob Boilen, All Songs Considered

The Preatures Hit Top 15 at CMJ with Planetary

Blue Planet Eyes not only lives up to its bold aspirations, it blows them away. As addictive as it is ambitious, it takes the promise of ‘Is This How You Feel?’ and projects it widescreen, popping with delicious grooves, hip-hugging bass lines and choruses that just won’t quit.

From the sultry swagger of ‘Whatever You Want’ to the juicy licks of ‘Ordinary’, through the hedonism of ‘Rock And Roll Rave’… it’s an exhilarating combination of Rock & Roll and Soul, at the centre of which beats a heart of brash, joyous pop.

“I really wanted to explore pop writing,” explains Izzi. “That’s the overarching theme [on the album]. I never thought I would be writing pop music, I don’t think any of us did. But the more I got into it, the more I love it – how I could make people feel the most in the least amount of time.”

Planetary’s Shady Elders Video Premiere At PopMatters

shadyelders3

“Like a drugged Ella Fitzgerald singing to a dying lover” (Denver Westword), Fox Rodemich’s inimitable, vibrato-soaked vocals are the centerpiece to Shady Elders’ shimmery yet dark take on dream pop, shoegaze, doo-wop and indie rock.

The Denver based band’s 2013 debut EP, No Favors, was released via Hot Congress Records to high acclaim, and earned them support slots for Mazzy Star, DeVotchka, Dr. Dog, The Antlers, Wild Nothing, Youth Lagoon, The Drums, and Austra among others, as well as a trip to the 2013 CMJ Music Marathon.

“The video, shot in black and white but flecked with psychedelic color, is a wistful capturing of a carnival, with ferris wheels and booth games abound. In the hands of an ordinary band, this video would have been a simple case of sentimentalizing; however, when backed with the moody music of Shady Elders, this look into the past takes on an opaque, intriguing light.”
