You have enough to worry about as a musician and a content creator, that’s why Planetary Group offers a simple, easy-to-use radio promotion service that you can trust. We work with musicians from all genres and experience levels: from up-and-coming artists to more seasoned professionals. We guarantee to provide you with the exposure you deserve.
Our radio department develops campaigns that target college radio, AAA, non-commerical, public radio, and commercial specialty shows. In this section, we will give you an overview of our AAA radio promotional campaigns.
What is the AAA radio format?
AAA stands for “adult album alternative”; it has also been called “triple A” or simply “adult alternative.” The AAA radio format is geared more toward adults than teenagers, and the playlists are much broader than hit radio stations, since they tend to pull from both album tracks and tracks released as singles.
Because of the broader playlists on AAA radio, it is a great way for up-and-coming musicians to promote their music as well as more seasoned professionals. In fact, many in the industry see AAA radio as an ideal “test format” for up-and-coming artists, since it was invented for people who wanted to hear music that they wouldn’t have access to on more traditional “hit-oriented” radio formats.
What kind of music does AAA Radio play?
Stylistically, AAA radio may play rock, folk-rock, country-rock, modern rock, blues, folk, and world music. Some AAA outlets might focus more on classic rock or blues, while others will focus more on folk or world music, but in general, AAA radio has a broader, more diverse range than most other formats.
Though the genres may vary from station-to-station, what they all have in common is that they tend to steer clear of rap, hip-hop, hard rock, heavy metal, or other styles that might read as harsh to a middle-aged audience.
Artists featured on AAA radio take their influence from artists like: U2, Sheryl Crow, The Cure, Jeff Buckley, and the Indigo Girls.
How does our process work?
First we will need to listen to your release to determine if it’s something that aligns with the AAA outlets we target. If so, then we will reach out to you to discuss your goals and touring plans so that we can create a customized, targeted campaign that works for you.
Radio campaigns typically run 6-8 weeks, where Planetary Group is actively soliciting radio stations for airtime and feedback, saving you time and energy.
What you need to provide.
You’ll need to provide us with digital tracks or albums of your music, along with a brief bio to help provide some background for your work to the stations.
For regional campaigns our team would be personally reaching out to between 150-200 radio stations, and around 300+ for national campaigns. We will let you know the exact amount when we discuss your customized promotional plan.
