Planetary Group took some time to get to know Mila Degray, an artist bringing indie alt-rock, Streetgaze, bubblegum grunge, and pop punk to the mainstream.
P: Tell us about your latest release. How did you come to create it?
MD: It’s a collection of my teenage years, all into one big Frankensteined piece. I can’t recreate half of these stories or feel the way I did back then, but I think that’s what’s charming about it. Many producers all over the world contributed to this soul project, and for it to be out soon finally doesn’t feel real. I can’t believe I made it out alive to my 20s.
P: Share a bit about your musical journey, from when you first started making music until now.
MD: I made tracks on garageband and would use my computer keyboard to play piano and bass and add little drum parts on my closet floor for hours during quarantine, figuring it all out. I had no idea how to play to a tempo, so I’d re-record the main rhythm guitar part over and over for 3 minutes each time and restart even if the string buzzed a little bit. the production process became to stressful for me so i decided to look for producers to help me out and it kinda went on from there.

MD: Coming from someone who grew up feeling like they couldn’t speak because what they had to say didn’t matter – it does.
